This project involved the refurbishment of the Jubilee + Bevan Buildings, enhancing classroom and laboratory spaces to support a modern, educational environment. Focusing on improving functionality and ensuring a high quality finish whilst the School remained fully operational.
Scope of work
Jubilee Building – Classrooms & Offices
- Refurbishment of existing offices and classrooms to form:
– 3 new ground floor classrooms
– 3 new first floor classrooms
– 4 new offices - Works included installation of new flooring, ceilings, mechanical ventilation, lighting, and full redecoration.
- Major structural alterations carried out, including the installation of new steelwork within the roof void to accommodate new wall layouts.
- External repairs included:
– Removal of rotten wooden balcony posts and installation of galvanised steel support posts.
– Replacement of the external metal staircase leading to the first-floor classrooms, including full decoration of staircases.
– Decoration of windows, doors and fascia boards.
Bevan Building – Science Laboratories & Prep Room
- Full refurbishment of existing science classrooms to create modern laboratories and a new prep room.
- Works included flooring, decoration, lift installation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, switches, sockets, and new laboratory furniture.
- Floor cutting to form the lift shaft, with safe removal and disposal of asbestos.
- Installation of a gypsum lift shaft system and fitting of a new lift providing access from ground floor to first floor.
- Assembly and installation of laboratory workstations and teachers’ desks, including connection of gas and water supplies to all required stations.
- Installation of a new mechanical ventilation system by Systemair, with structural supports to carry the units.
- Roof modifications to accommodate new roof cowls, completed safely using internal and external scaffolding.
Health & Safety / Live Environment
- All works carried out within a live school environment with strict safety measures implemented to protect students, staff and operatives.
- Fully trained and DBS-checked site team and regular subcontractors worked closely with the client to ensure the project was completed on time, maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and quality.
The updated Jubilee + Bevan Buildings now provide students with enhanced learning environments, featuring modern facilities, expanded laboratory functionality, and refined classroom spaces that support growth and innovation in education.
