Construction of a New Sports Hall and Facilities at Shinfield Infants School

This project involved the construction of a new sports hall equipped with school meal kitchen facilities, offices, and WCs, along with the refurbishment and alteration of existing classrooms, kitchen, and dining hall. Associated external works included the construction of a new car park.

Scope of work

New Sports Hall Extension:

  • The new 400m² hall extension, registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme, was built during term time with phased completion for refurbishment and alteration works of the existing school facilities.
  • The new build features traditional strip foundations, suspended beam and block flooring, and a structural steel portal frame.
  • The construction utilized brickwork and blockwork cavity walls, sections of rendered walls, bespoke Marley cladding panels, a Bailey recessed rainwater system, Kalzip roof decking, and a single ply membrane roof.
  • External installations included window and door sets with a Halo brise soleil system.

Internal Installations:

  • A state-of-the-art school meals kitchen with a kitchen servery and roller shutter.
  • Office and changing room areas, male, female, and accessible WCs.
  • The sports hall was outfitted with storage cupboards, vinyl floor coverings, entrance matting, acoustic wall panels, suspended ceilings, automated window blinds, and full decorations.
  • New mechanical and electrical systems, including underfloor heating, ventilation, lighting, power, data, fire alarm, and intruder alarm systems.

The project successfully delivered a modern sports hall and enhanced school facilities, providing state-of-the-art amenities and improved infrastructure, all while maintaining a considerate approach to construction during term time.
