Park House School

Construction of a New Library Extension at Park House School

Sector: Education
Client: West Berkshire Council
Value range: £1m – £1.5m

This project involved creating a brand-new, purpose-built library extension for Park House School, enhancing educational facilities, and improving accessibility and energy efficiency.

Scope of work

New Library Extension:

  • The new library extension connects the original Park House building to the History Corridor, enclosing one side of the 6th Form Courtyard.
  • The library is divided into an upper and lower section, housing book storage and work areas.
  • Three ‘lantern’ roof lights provide ample natural light and volume to the new block.
  • The new library meets current standards and is appropriately sized for the school’s future needs.

Conversion and Improvement:

  • The previous library will be converted into three well-sized classrooms and one smaller group room, expanding the range of teaching spaces.
  • The staff kitchenette will be transformed into an accessible WC to meet accessibility requirements, with a new kitchenette installed in the existing staff room.

Project Highlights:

  • Addition of three new classrooms.
  • Relocation and expansion of the library.
  • Improved accessibility with the installation of a disabled WC.
  • Enhanced building energy efficiency through a window upgrade program.

The new library extension and associated improvements at Park House School significantly enhance the school’s educational facilities, providing a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient environment for both students and staff.
