Extension and Refurbishment for Two-Form Entry at Primary School

A four-phase project consisting of both new build and refurbishment works to provide two-form entry for the Primary School, along with associated car parking, hard, and soft landscaping works.

Scope of work

New Build Construction:

  • Construction of 6 new classrooms.
  • Addition of circulation areas, storage cupboards, meeting rooms, and WC facilities for both staff and pupils.

Refurbishment:

  • Refurbishment of existing classroom spaces, the main hall, and the audio-visual room.
  • Creation of new WC facilities, an office, a group room, and a medical inspection room.

Construction Methods:

  • Undertaking fifty-eight piles at a depth of fifteen meters each.
  • Excavation, formwork, and reinforcement.
  • Concreting of ground beams and installation of new pre-cast concrete block and beam flooring.
  • Brickwork & blockwork construction.
  • Installation of roof trusses and aluminium standing seam roof coverings.
  • Aluminium windows and doors.
  • Implementation of an underfloor heating system.
  • Carpentry works, suspended ceilings.
  • Electrical and mechanical modifications, including new supplies

Challenges and Considerations:

  • Ensuring the safety of all pupils, staff, and visitors as most works were undertaken during term time.
  • Meticulous planning and regular liaison meetings were held, chaired by our Construction Manager and site team, to ensure the successful delivery and completion of each phase while adhering to Morris + Blunt’s strict health and safety policy.

The project required close coordination with school staff to maintain safety and minimize disruptions. Regular meetings and careful planning were critical to the project’s success, ensuring each phase was completed efficiently and safely.
