The project involved the refurbishment and remodelling of existing classrooms on the first-floor level, along with new mechanical and electrical services.
Scope of work
Structural Modifications:
- Demolition of two load-bearing walls on the first floor, utilizing temporary structural needle propping per the site-specific temporary works design.
- Installation of new steel beams and new acoustic stud partitions to alter the classroom layout.
Interior Enhancements:
- Classrooms received new plaster ceiling finishes, fire precautions, bespoke skirting, and plaster coving to match existing designs.
- Upgraded floor finishes, wash hand basins, sink units, noticeboards, window film, roller blinds, vision panels, and decorative finishes.
- Installation of new bespoke teacher wall systems.
Ground Floor Upgrades:
- Cavity wall construction to block existing external doors and install new external windows and an aluminium door set.
- Incorporation of a new level threshold access ramp to meet DDA requirements.
Mechanical and Electrical Upgrades:
- Stripped out the existing boiler house and installed a new boiler, control system, and heating facilities.
- New mechanical installations included radiators, heating pipework, air cooling units, and new waste connections to sink units.
- Electrical installations included new LED lighting, emergency lighting, fire detection systems, small power, and AV connections.
The new classroom refurbishments at The Abbey significantly enhance the school’s educational facilities, providing a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient environment for both students and staff.
