Comprehensive redevelopment of an existing 1950s dwelling to create a contemporary, energy-efficient family home. The scheme involved demolition, extension and internal reconfiguration to almost triple the size of the original property while delivering a coherent and modern design.
Scope of work
Demolition & Extensions
- Demolition of the existing double attached single-storey garage.
- Construction of a new three-storey side extension and smaller single-storey extensions to both the front and rear.
- Enlarged building envelope designed to provide a balanced and visually coherent appearance.
Internal Reconfiguration
- Relocation of the main staircase to re-centre circulation within the new layout.
- Creation of a double-height entrance hallway featuring the new staircase and glazed frontage to the driveway.
- Extensive reconfiguration of the existing house to integrate new and existing spaces.
New Accommodation
- Ground Floor: Large open-plan kitchen, dining and family room with views over the private garden and surrounding farmland.
- First Floor: Spacious master suite with glazed Juliet balcony, guest bedroom and en-suite.
- Second Floor/Attic: Additional accommodation including a loft room for use as an office or children’s games room, with natural light provided by Velux and gable windows.
Energy Efficiency & Finishes
- Complete re-wiring and re-plumbing throughout the property.
- Installation of high levels of insulation as part of an “insulation first” energy strategy.
- Removal of existing upper-level tile hanging to allow for the application of external wall insulation to the retained structure.
- Triple-glazed windows and underfloor heating installed to create a highly energy-efficient family home.
