What we did

Morris & Blunt Ltd. were pleased to be awarded a contract for The National Trust for the conversation and refurbishment of two buildings – Lambs Cottage & Yew Tree Cottage. This project was dealt with in two phases, each dealing with a different building.

Phase 1 – Lambs Cottage

A range of provisions were made to Lambs Cottage for the refurbishment and bolstering of the structures lifespan. Works included a range of structural repairs, cleaning, and repointing of brickwork, installation of a range of rainwater gutters & downpipes, as well as a series of new windows and glazing focused on draught proofing and further insulating the building. Further improvements to quality were also made in the roof space, with the cleaning of roof tiles, re-treatment of timber with preservatives, installation of new loft insulation, and the construction of an internal access hatch.

Phase 2 – Yew Tree Cottage

Works at Yew Tree Cottage commenced following an Engineers assessment to the extent of the works required, identifying that significant repairs would be necessary. Following the given advice, the roof was made structurally sound with new board and batten coverings, and the installation of new colour matched roof tiles. As a listed building, the same original tiles were selected to match the original design to cover and protect the cottage roof, whilst also helping to restore and maintain its original appearance. Additional works that were carried out include the maintenance, matching, and repointing of faulty brickwork, as well as the construction of a new replacement lean-to storage shed to the side of the building.
