On the 19th September 2016 Andy Goodchild, Melvin Blunt, Sean Morris & Paul Francis left the UK to embark on a 7 day, trek of Mont Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. An “off the cuff” suggestion in a bar 12 months previous soon turned into reality for these intrepid walkers and took on the ultimate challenge of a lifetime. After a gruelling 5 days, they successfully climbed 18,885 feet to reach the summit and in doing so raised over £4000.00 for charity. The chosen charity was the Reading Lions Prostate Cancer.
Prostate cancer is the biggest killer of men over 50 in the UK. One man dies every hour in the UK and early treatment saves lives. There is currently no national screening programme. Each year Reading Lions Club hold a free prostate cancer awareness event and offer free prostate cancer PSA tests to men over 50 in the Reading area.
